Real wedding: Jackie & Chris’ fun cocktail wedding at Poodle Bar & Bistro, Fitzroy

Jackie and Chris celebrated got hitched on Saturday, 1 March 2025, with a lively cocktail-style wedding at northside favourite Poodle Bar & Bistro in Fitzroy. The chosen colour palette of red, bright fuchsia, and blush set a cheerful tone for the evening. Aleks Mac had the pleasure of being their celebrant for the ceremony and DJ for the reception.

The ceremony

Guests arrived at 5:00pm, enjoying a drink and some pre-ceremony tunes curated by Aleks. The ceremony began at 5:30 PM with Aleks doing an Acknowledgement of Country as celebrant.

For the entrance, bridesmaids walked in one by one, followed by Jackie with her dad, to “Real Love Baby” by Father John Misty. The wedding party sat with guests to maximise for the ceremony.

During the signing of the register, the couple chose Taylor Swift’s “Lover,” “California Stars” by Wilco, and “Romeo and Juliet” by Dire Straits.

After the formalities, Jackie and Chris were officially announced as husband and wife and made their exit to the Winston Surfshirt cover of “Kiss Me More”. The pre-ceremony music had a “jazzy happy upbeat” vibe, a mood that continued into the post-ceremony celebrations.

“She was professional, sweet, light hearted and just nailed the comedic moments – totally understood the brief for our ceremony.”

The music & the party

Following the ceremony, guests continued to enjoy an eclectic mix of upbeat tunes. For the reception, Jackie and Chris wanted “a packed dance floor and for there to be no lulls that make people want to sit down,” with “recognisable fun party songs that everyone knows”. They also hoped for some wedding classics for the older guests, like ABBA.

DJ Aleks curated the music for the evening, drawing from their preferred genres which included classic rock, disco, funk, hip hop, R&B, and a wide range of pop from the 70s through to today’s hits. The couple’s list of favourite artists like Lizzo, Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce, Daft Punk, and Taylor Swift also featured. For the older guests, tunes from ABBA, Queen, and Fleetwood Mac were on the cards.

Their first dance was to “Texas Sun” by Leon Bridges. This was followed by Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” to get the party moving. The night wrapped up with Robin S’s “Show Me Love” and Daft Punk’s “One More Time”.
