Real wedding: Kandy’s beachside celebration at Captain Baxter
Categories Real weddings. Wedding Venues.. Weddings.22 Apr, 2026
Forget the generic wedding fluff; Kylie and Andy’s (aka Kandy) big day was a masterclass in how to throw a wedding that feels like a party from start to finish. Aleks Mac was the lucky celebrant and DJ for this one!
After 11 years and two beautiful boys together, this wasn’t just a ceremony: it was a long-awaited celebration with their absolute favourite people.
The wedding venue: Captain Baxter, St Kilda
Set against the iconic backdrop of St Kilda beach in Melbourne, Captain Baxter provided the perfect vintage-meets-modern aesthetic. The visual vibe was pale pink and pops of red with stunning beach views in the background.
The brief: High energy, zero ballads
Kylie and Andy’s music brief was music to our ears: cheese-free and strictly no ballads. Aleks transitioned from chill electronic and soulful vibes during the day to a high-energy dance floor fuelled by old-school RnB and house.
The ceremony: Personal, funny and unplugged
Aleks Mac stepped in as celebrant to deliver a ceremony that was high on personality and low on stuffiness. To ensure everyone was present, the couple opted for an unplugged ceremony, but not before Aleks facilitated a “fast photo minute.” This gave guests sixty seconds to snap their photos and get them out of the system before the phones went away.
Kandy met on Tinder back in 2014 and have been inseparable ever since. The ceremony focused on the couple’s eleven-year journey. This included the “shit-canned” proposal in Oia where Andy’s romantic plans were thwarted by swarms of tourists, eventually leading to a private moment on their hotel balcony. The storytelling also touched on the funny realities of their day-to-day life – from hygiene standards to navigational abilities. And of course, Aleks ended on what Kandy love about each other.
The music strategy: From ceremony to dance floor
As both their celebrant and DJ, Aleks Mac was able to curate the soundtrack from the moment guests arrived. Being able to set the tone early ensured the musical thread ran perfectly from the first guest arrival through to the final track of the night.
-
The entrance: The couple walked down the aisle together to the soaring sounds of Elbow’s “One Day Like This”.
-
The exit: Nothing says let’s party like walking back up the aisle as newlyweds to David Bowie’s “Modern Love”.
-
The reception: The dance floor was non-negotiable. Aleks kicked things off with David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” for the first dance. This fun classic set the tone for a night of dance floor bangers.
The full day set list
The couple provided an impressive list of requests that kept the energy peaking. Aleks curated a mix of old school RnB and house music that reflected the couple’s specific tastes.
