Real wedding: Tayla and Luke at the timeless Quat Quatta

There is something undeniably timeless about a classic black-tie aesthetic paired with an unapologetically high-energy dance floor. When Tayla and Luke started planning their autumn celebration at Ripponlea’s historic Quat Quatta, they had a crystal-clear vision: timeless elegance, lush red roses, and a dance floor packed with everything from 80s staples and millennial pop-punk anthems to modern pop bangers.

The couple locked in our Triple Threat package. They brought in Aleks Mac to look after celebrant duties, MC the evening, and look after music as DJ for the entire day.

Here is how Tayla and Luke created a day that was both aesthetically beautiful and a whole lot of fun.

 

The setting and the vibe

Set against the Victorian charm and festoon-lit courtyard of Quat Quatta, Tayla and Luke embraced an “old-school classic” palette with crisp black attire and deep red roses.

The room was packed with 91 of their closest humans. They opted for a hybrid format featuring both seated dining and relaxed cocktail mingling, which kept the atmosphere social, dynamic, and flowing smoothly into party mode.

The ceremony: storytelling and fast snaps

Before the vows, guests arrived to warm, upbeat crooners and soul tracks that set a relaxed, romantic tone. When it was time to kick things off, the bridal party stepped out individually before Tayla made her stunning entrance with both of her parents through the courtyard to the sweet nostalgia of This Kiss by Faith Hill.

Aleks led an unplugged ceremony with one fun exception: the “Fast Photo Minute”. Right after Tayla arrived at the top of the aisle, guests had 60 seconds to capture their best snaps, and then tuck their phones away for the rest of the ceremony.

Their love story had plenty of laughs: meeting on a night out at Father’s Office back in 2018, surviving a mosquito-filled camper van road trip, and that memorable moment at Tasmania’s Falls Festival when Luke first blurted out “God I love you“.

After exchanging personal vows that balanced teasing banter with heartfelt promises, the newlyweds sealed the deal to rapturous applause and danced back up the aisle to Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows.

 

Cocktails and dinner: upbeat anthems and soulful warm-ups

Following family photos in the courtyard, cocktail hour was all about bright, romantic tunes like Love Me For a Long Time by Maggie Rogers paired with drinks and canapés.

For dinner, Tayla and Luke were determined to avoid drowsy background music. They specifically requested familiar, mid-tempo classics from across the decades that guests could sing along to over their meals without feeling like they were stuck in a sleepy lounge. Timeless soul, 70s grooves, and family favourites kept the room buzzing. This included nods to The 1975, Fleetwood Mac, and classic crooners.

When it came to making an entrance, the couple went straight for pure funk with Got to Be Real by Cheryl Lynn..

After dinner, the couple kicked off the dance floor with their first dance. They chose the dreamy sounds of Crystal by Stevie Nicks. To keep it sweet and concise, Aleks invited everyone on to join them at two minutes.

The dance floor: emo anthems, brat energy and sing-along chaos

Tayla and Luke’s dance floor brief was clear. In their Party Brief questionnaire, they wrote: “Dance floor going off is the main goal and everyone leaving with no voices.”

Aleks kicked off the open floor by bridging generations with high-voltage classics from ABBA, Elvis, Queen, and Cyndi Lauper. This to ensured the parents and grandparents got their moment in the spotlight.

From there, the party shifted into top gear:

• Millennial sing-alongs: Wall-to-wall choruses with The Killers (Mr. Brightside), The Veronicas (Untouched), and early Britney Spears.

• Emo and pop-punk throwbacks: As self-professed former emo kids, the room erupted for My Chemical Romance (I’m Not Okay) and classic Paramore.

• Modern floor-fillers: High-energy pop from Charli xcx’s Brat, peak Taylor Swift, and a hilarious, brief guest appearance of Limp Bizkit’s Rollin exclusively for Luke!

The final two songs were Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet followed by Smash Mouth’s I’m a Believer.
