Real wedding: Hugh + Kahli’s classy city affair

Stylish Melbourne couple Hugh and Kahli held their wedding reception at the centrally located art deco venue, Alfred Place. With its cocktail format, this black tie wedding made use of the many incredible spaces within the venue. Hugh and Kahli had really specific music tastes – it was all about classy, fun and upbeat tunes without the stereotypical wedding cheese. Just our vibe!

The venue

Alfred Place is an elegant venue in a historical laneway in Melbourne’s CBD. It’s one of our faves (as evidenced by its inclusion in our blog on the best city venues). Its soaring high ceilings and opulent touches of marble and rich emerald are unique and oh-so-classy!

The vendors

Flowers Vasette provided the jewel toned florals, adorning the entry staircase and different rooms for the reception. New Zealand based photographer Bek Smith captured the whole day, including a pre-reception photo shoot in Melbourne’s lush Botanical Gardens. And finally, Kahli’s timeless gown was by none other than Oscar de la Renta.

The music

Hugh and Kahli met with DJ Aleks Mac for a few wines in the city to discuss the very important music brief! For cocktail hour, Aleks curated a Hotel Costes style set list.

The couple are huge music-lovers and for dance floor wanted lots of disco, funk, soul, old school RnB, classic house, Michael Jackson and 80s synth. They booked both a percussionist and saxophonist to play alongside DJ Aleks Mac. The trio was a hit!

Hugh and Kahli walked into the reception to Sister Sledge’s ‘We Are Family’ and their first dance was a fun rework of the Bee Gee’s ‘More Than A Woman’ that DJ Aleks Mac chose for them!
