So, you may be thinking: what’s the benefit of having a DJ who’s also your MC?

  • Stress less – a professional will take the stress of keeping the night running off you / your friends / your family. It’s a big ask of a guest to take on the MC role, which is about so much more than just having a copy of the run sheet (check out what’s involved in our blog: The truth about the MC role).
  • Smooth coordination – we work closely with your venue, vendors, people making speeches and importantly you – the couple – to make sure everyone is clear on timings and what’s happening next. We don’t want your photographer or videographer missing those key moments (hey, we’ve seen it happen with rogue family/friend MCs, who have announced the first dance with the photographer in the bathroom!).
  • Keep the night running – we inject the right amount of energy to get your guests excited, yet we don’t take away the spotlight. Our role as MC is to keep things running so you have maximum time for dancing. It’s not about us – it’s about you, the couple, and your fave people!

How we play the dual DJ and MC roles!

Adding on MCing to our DJ services is easy peasy.

On the day itself, our DJ set up comes not only with DJ decks and speakers, but a microphone, so we are usually in charge of the overall sound for your wedding. We also bring a back up microphone. If your venue has a microphone they’d prefer to use, we can use that instead.

We can make announcements from behind the DJ decks (if we need to hit play on key songs, eg. for reception entrances) or in a different spot (eg. if speeches are taking place on the other side of the room). We’re totally flexible!

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of announcements will you make?

We’ll run the night from beginning to end! Every wedding is different, but generally, the announcements can include:

  • Welcome and housekeeping (from the venue)
  • A brief rundown of what’s happening
  • Wedding party entrances
  • Cake cutting (if applicable)
  • Calling all speeches
  • First dance (if applicable)
  • Last drinks call
  • Final song.

How do you juggle between DJing and MCing?

We generally stand behind our decks for announcements. If your venue is a larger space or announcements need to be done in another room, we can roam easily with our wireless microphone.

If you need us to play music while making announcements (eg. during entrances), we may use an assistant or wireless technology!

If all else fails, you may see us run to the decks to launch that tune. No matter what, we’ll make it happen!

What else is involved with your MC service?

Along with the major announcements at your wedding reception, we’ll be busy working behind the scenes to ensure that everything runs smoothly for your night. This includes liaising with all of your key vendors (such as photographer, videographer and any musicians you may have booked). We will also work directly with the event coordinator at your venue.

We totally understand that wedding reception timings are fluid and things may run a little behind at times, so are flexible and can change things up if needed. This may include (for example) pushing back the second round of speeches if you are still getting your golden hour photos done.

We’re also very mindful that anyone doing a speech may be a little nervous, so we make a point to check in with them before a speeches round kicks off to make sure they’re ready to go (or they need another quick drink for some “Dutch courage”…!).

I have an intimate and relaxed wedding. Do I still need an MC?

Even for a really relaxed and intimate wedding with little in the way of formalities, it’s still important to have an MC of some sort to coordinate between vendors, guests, you and the venue.

You can always ask a friend or family member to MC too! Pick someone who is confident, organised, responsible and preferably has MCed a wedding before. We will always call the last tune of the night so that person can “hang up the mic” after dancing kicks off!

Can I add the MC service later on?

Absolutely! If you are on the fence about having your DJ act as the MC, you can add the MC service at any time along the way.

Just let us know if you’re keen and we’ll add the additional service to your balance invoice.

What do you need from us to MC?

The run sheet with as much as detail as possible (eg. the name of each person making a speech and their relationship to you).

Regardless of the level of detail you provide, we always run through all of the announcements and logistics in great detail on our final call. Read more about how we work with clients.
